What Are The Best Team Building Activities For Work?

by admin on November 29, 2009

If you have been given the task of finding team building activities for work, then you know how big a challenge that can be. The corporate team building game or course ideally needs to be something that every one can participate in to some extent, so that there are no outsiders in a team. The idea of these events is to encourage team work and team development, which will hopefully flow over from this program into the work place.

This means that the ideas and activities considered for such a team bonding, team building event are important. In some companies, there are a few people responsible for this, but these are usually larger companies. The smaller companies generally have enough work to do without adding team development and team building preparation to the list! In this case, the best solution is to hire a company to organize your team building exercises for you.

To do this, there is generally plenty of choice in each community, so that very little is needed in the way of travel expenses. These companies generally have a long list of options for team development which can be adjusted to work for your particular industry. And they have some very neat, fun ideas!

For instance, one company hands out drums to every company member, and then they work together to produce some great drum orchestrated music.

This works really well for a few reasons. It is generally not something that people have done before, but it is something in which everyone can participate. There is no need for special knowledge, there are no special skills needed, and the results are amazing. Those participating come away inspired at what they have been able to produce as a team, just the result that was hoped for at the beginning.

Another idea is a scavenger hunt, and this is one that can be organized within the company. Each team is made up of people from different departments, so that they get to know others in the company.

The teams are all asked to take photos of their complete team, except the person taking the photo, at certain locations, with certain items.

For example, one company had each team take their photograph with a biker, and another with a car salesman, or at a construction site. The teams had to communicate to decide on the best way of getting all that was required as fast as possible, because of course there was a time limit. This is again something that doesn’t really need a great deal of knowledge, but it can be fun to work together collecting these photos, and getting to know other people from the company too.

Obstacle courses are often used to promote team deveoplment, team spirit and team trust, by throwing in a twist to a normal course so that the course cannot be completed unless the team members all cooperate in some way. Similarly, playing a blindfold game, perhaps finding your way through a maze, is a good way to instill trust in team members as you are trusting that they will not allow you to get hurt if you are the one that is blind folded.

Of course there are plenty more choices that you could put into use for your team building activities for work that will enhance your team development, but we shall leave it at that for today.
